Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Holy Family School Rathmore Capture Division 3 Hurling Title

Holy Family School Rathmore played Sliabh A’ Mhadra N.S. Ballyduff in the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Division Hurling Final in Abbeydorney on Thursday evening last in dry but windy conditions. From the outset this final was keenly contested with scores at a premium as both sets of players went all out to deny their opponents clean possession and when their opponents did win possession they were hassled and hooked and blocked and denied clear shots at goal. Callum Carey Sheehy did break free to score two first half points for Sliabh A’ Mhadra and Adam Lynch turned and stole forward to land another. Rathmore who had top performers throughout landed their opening score through Shane Daly and a well worked team goal cleverly dispatched to the net by Ross Moriarty saw them lead 1-1 to 0-3 at the break.

Jack Galway registered the opening goal of the second half and he followed up with a point to put Sliabh A’ Mhadra a goal ahead as they piled on the pressure. However, Pádraig Moynihan tightened up on Jack Galway and the Rathmore outfit settled and a goal and a point through the influential Leah Daly put them ahead. A well taken point by Adam Lynch left the teams deadlocked as we entered the final minutes. Holy Family went on the attack and Shane Daly went through to score a brilliant goal. Sliabh A’ Mhadra went in search of the equalising goal but the Rathmore defence stood resolute and with the last play of the game Conor Moynihan extended the lead with a fine point to ensure the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol shield headed to the Sliabh Luachra District. Final score: Holy Family: 3-03; Sliabh A’ Mhadra: 1-05.
