Firies GAA building to inspire the future

Firies G.A.A. are embarking on a fundraising draw for a duration of 6 months to enable the Club to fund the development of a second training facility in Ballinvarrig close to Firies Village.

The Club has purchased lands in Firies and now set out on the path to develop these long overdue facilities in the Firies village area.

With ever increasing playing numbers and multi sports codes that now require access to training facilities and the playing pitch in Pairc Eamon in Farranfore. There is are huge pressures on the existing facilities in Farranfore to meet the increasing demand.

The Club currently caters for boys and girls teams from U6 upwards in Football and also our ever expanding Hurling teams. Community Games and the Farranfore Maine Valley Athletic Club also use our facilities in Farranfore. St. Anne’s Basketball Club use the Sports Hall in Farranfore during the Basketball season.

The development of these facilities will allow greater access to training time for all club teams, it is also envisaged to install a walking track with low level lighting around the perimeter of the facilities for all members of the community to use.

As the site contains a portion of the Old Molahiffe Railway we are working in conjunction with the Kerry County Council to develop this amenity.

To help in the funding of these new facilities in the Firies Village area the Club 600 draw will take place over 6 months with €19,000 being paid out in prize money.

The Club has not undertaken a large fundraising initiative of this nature in over 10 years.

COST OF DRAW ENTRY

6 months x €20/month = €120

There are different payment options for your convenience to enter the Draw.

€5 standing order for 20 weeks = €100

€100 one-off payment = €100

€20/month for 6 months = €120

For Draw members that chose option 1. Standing order or option 2. One-off €100 payment a special draw shall take place for €1,000.

The Club are appealing to the residents of Firies, Ballyhar and Farranfore to support the draw to enable the development of these badly needed sports facilities in the Firies Village area. We also would appeal to the Parish diaspora who are spread far and wide who might like to contribute to this development.

Any interested individuals/businesses can contact any club member for tickets, e-mailsecretary.firies.kerry@gaa.ie for tickets, contact us on Facebook or ring 00353 87 2998231 to purchase tickets.

Together with the help of the Parish and the Diaspora we can develop these recreational facilities for the benefit of this generation and many more to come in the future. To help streamline the overall dub activities we aim to have one group going forward Football, Hurling, Scor and the Club are currently investigating the amalgamation of the Ladies Club with the Firies G.A.A. Club.

The Club recently hosted Games in the John West Feile Under 14 Hurling Competition, a very proud day for the players, parents and mentors involved. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our many loyal lotto ticket purchasers and sellers. The Club lotto is vital as this is the main stay of the day to day running of the Club during the year.

Over the next number of weeks between here and the 1st Draw at the end of July, Club members/players will be calling house to house throughout the Parish in its endeavor to fill the Club 600 members draw. Thanks for your continued support.
