Kerry Library launches its 2019 Summer Stars Reading Adventure

Libraries across Kerry are welcoming children to participate in a fantastic adventure that will keep them busy with reading throughout the school summer holidays – the Summer Stars Reading Adventure.

Each year Kerry Library runs summer reading programmes for primary school children to promote reading during the holidays and to encourage readers and not so regular readers to engage with books. The 2019 Reading Challenge will run from now until 30 August.

Taking part is easy: just call into to your local library and register. Each child who registers for the free programme joins in the fun of reading lots of exciting books. Each child will receive their own Summer Stars reading card to record their progress and for each book read will have a Summer Stars Reward Stamp added to their card at the library. At the end of the programme, all children who have participated will be invited to attend an awards event at their local library.

An interactive website is also available [www.librariesireland.ie/summer-stars] where participants can play related themed games, review books and communicate with selected authors.

Summer Stars at your local library provides the whole family with an opportunity to explore the full range of events and facilities which are available, including story time sessions, book clubs, children’s activities, access to talking books and games, workshops, computers and internet access, and of course children’s books for all ages.
